I came across this link on Google News thinking it was another one of those “$100 laptops” that will really end up being $300 or more after taking everything into consideration. However, in this case, it looks like the $25 computer ($35 if you want internet) is real and almost here. Now of course when I say “computer” don’t think of the M11x or even the old Apple’s that we would fight over in elementary school (I’m not sure the “why” either, let’s just assume Apple was possessing our souls back then too). Think more like a thick USB drive with a bunch of ports. Portable OS on flash drives aren’t anything new, but the idea was to plug them into an existing computer. Well the amazing team over at RaspberryPi.com have found a way to make the same amount of hardware work without needing a computer to plug into (because, well, it IS the computer fool!).
This thing is so “geek” it doesn’t even have a case yet (probably won’t at launch in the next month or two) but running Linux and having Ethernet, USB and HDMI ports you can get a “PC” for $35 bucks! I’m definitely going to check it out just so I can be a part of something amazing (and well, because for $35 there is no reason not to!)
