2 Hobbits? Really?

How in the heck……… The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and then The Hobbit: There and Back Again in 2012 and 2013 respectively. The 2012 movie has the description of the “There and Back Again” concept, the original Hobbit. Did they not only break this into two parts but also into two separate “stories?” They did LotR, the TRILOGY in THREE movies but now you are going to do The Hobbit, already short compared to any of the LotR sections and with much less to work with in regard to scenes in TWO movies?? Am I the only one that is molegasted at this?

Not only that, and it has been a long time since I read the book, but where was Legolas in The Hobbit? And what is this business about an old and young Bilbo? What are they going to do, flash-forwards to LotR? Or are they going to have Legolas meet Bilbo instead of Thranduil? Anything to get the women into the theaters I guess.
