Google Background Image

You know I can understand some of the annoyance expressed by Google.com users when they loaded the page and got hit by a random picture. Google could have definitely rolled out the option better. I personally like it and think the page responds well to most of the images. I can admit a splash pop-up saying the option exists, click here to demo, would have probably ruffled a lot less feathers. This was almost on par with the revelation of the deathstar. I mean really people, where are your priorities?? We all know the deathstar > Google background images on their search page.

What I definitely don’t agree with is the notion that Google was suffering from Bing envy. The idea of nonblank pages surely existed prior to Bing, ask.com comes to mind and even Google’s igoogle.com allows for themes via a picture to be applied. While it certainly makes one think of Bing for various reasons I definitely don’t consider it as having Bing envy simply because they put a crisp picture as a background.
